(1) Psychiatric Drugs + Heat Wave = Death

MindFreedom Warning:

The combination of a heat wave along with laws requiring people to

take powerful psychiatric drugs in their own homes on an "outpatient

basis" can kill.

Media are not adequately warning the public: Neuroleptics, also known as

"antipsychotics," can suppress the ability of the body to adjust to heat.

MindFreedom is pro-choice about people's decisions to take

psychiatric drugs. But the lack of information and services during

recent heat waves, plus court-ordered forced drugging of people in

their homes, is a recipe for a deadly disaster.

(5) Psychologists protest vote by American Psychological Association

SAN FRANCISCO: Yesterday, the American Psychological Association

refused to vote for a ban on psychologists participating in

interrogations at Guantanamo Bay and other military installations.

The American Psychological Association instead voted for a milder

resolution that banned about a dozen interrogation techniques.

Dissident psychologists led protests outside the meeting. You can

read what some of them said in a transcript of a Town Hall meeting of

Democracy Now.

A disability radio show will interview director of MindFreedom

(7) Debate on National Public Radio about forced outpatient

psychiatric drugging

National Public Radio's show "Justice Talking" features discussions with

representatives of 'both sides of the story' about the issue of

involuntary psychiatric drugging of people out in their own neighborhoods

and homes using court orders.

MICHAEL ALLEN, a MindFreedom member in Washington, D.C. area who is an

attorney, will debate the issue of forced outpatient psychiatric drugging

on the National Public Radio show "Justice Talking."

Save the dates! Nonviolent protest on 10 and 11 October 2007.

We are screening the world for normality during a 48 hour period of

October 10 and October 11!

You are encouraged to brainstorm and plan fun, peaceful protests of

mental health system oppression, "normality," and "mental health

screening" this October, especially during the 48 hours of October 10

(World Mental Health Day) and October 11 (National Mental Health

Screening Day)!

The special theme is youth. Creativity, theater, costumes and skits are

especially invited. Take photos or video, upload them. Events are already

planned in Belgium, Washington, D.C., St. Louis and Accra, Ghana!

Do a "Mad Minute" where in 60 seconds you explain what you

survived... what you prefer... and show us your Mad Pride!

(9) MindFreedom Youth VOICES FOR CHOICES in mental health.

MindFreedom is focusing on youth and mental health in special

campaign called VOICES FOR CHOICES.

Humane alternatives for mental and emotional well being are a human

right! One choice -- psychiatric drugs -- is not really a choice!

If you are interested in participating, let us know. Youth and "ex-

youth" are both invited, and leadership by youth is especially

encouraged.

The campaign begins in Lane County, Oregon, but anyone can

participate. Contact MindFreedom Youth Coordinator Martin Rafferty at

Next local meeting, with a special youth panel of psychiatric

survivors: The MindFreedom Monthly Free Mind RoundTable on Wednesday, 5

September 2007, 5:30 pm, outside the MindFreedom office. The panel will

include Skye, a teen who was featured in a recent nationally- televised

reality TV show.
