(1) Mother Jones Exposes "School of Shock"
MindFreedom salutes Mother Jones magazine for publishing a
very
important investigation of abuse of youth in today's
mental health
system. Journalist Jennifer Gonnerman examines the
infamous Rotenberg
Center that uses electrical pain to limbs and abdomen to
try to change
the behavior of troubled youth and adults.

(2) Sue Clark -- electroshock survivor & activist -- is
the next
guest on MindFreedom Free Live Internet Radio
This Wednesday, 29 August 2007, at 4 pm ET, "click and
listen" to a live
interview with electroshock-survivor SUE CLARK from
Ontario, Canada.
Phone in with your questions & comments live.
During the 18-year period from 1972 to 1990, Sue was
diagnosed with 15
different psychiatric labels, prescribed 14 different
types of
psychiatric drugs, and was locked up in a variety of
psychiatric
institutions in Ontario, Canada.
Sue says, "I was tortured with electroshock in 1973 at the
age of l7
years old which was given to me against my will." Sue says
she suffers
from permanent memory loss and has a difficult time
learning new things
to this day. Electroshock is sometimes called
electroconvulsive therapy
and involves administering so much electricity to the
brain that a
convulsion is induced.

(3) After international protests Larisa Arap is freed from
Russian psychiatric institution
Russian journalist Larisa Arap has been freed from a
Russian
psychiatric institution where she has been held for 46
days. Arap,
who had investigated psychiatric institutions, was freed
following
the visit of a government commission, which may have been
prompted by
widespread public protests. MindFreedom was one of many
groups to issue a
human rights alert. More info:

(4) Screen for "normality"!
Peaceful protesters plan to turn the tables on Mental
Health
Screening. They will "screen for normality" on 10 and 11
October 2007.
The special theme is youth. Creativity, theater, costumes
and skits are
especially invited. Take photos or video, upload them. Mad
Pride events
are already planned in Belgium, Washington, D.C., St.
Louis and
Australia.
A good time to decide to join in the fun is this Saturday,
1
September 2007. That day marks the 40th anniversary of
Martin Luther
King's speech in front of the American Psychological
Association
passionately calling once more for the creation of the
"International
Association for the Advancement of Creative
Maladjustment."
How will you celebrate your own "creative maladjustment"?
