MAJOR CORPORATE MEDIA IGNORE USA PSYCHIATRIC HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS "DOES GETTING FORCED ELECTROSHOCK FEEL ANY DIFFERENTLY IN THE USA?"

(1) ZAP MEDIA SILENCE ABOUT USA FORCED SHOCK

_The New York Times_ reported today about forced electroshock... in China. http://www.nytimes.com/2001/02/18/world/18CHIN.html
But what about forced electroshock in the USA, right in New York State, not all that far from _New York Times_ offices?
Here is the human rights alert Support Coalition
International broadcast on Feb. 13 about forced electroshock this past week of Paul Henri Thomas in New York State. http://mindfreedom.org/mindfreedom/news/010213_b.shtml
Paul Henri Thomas is truly a human rights activist. Paul's court hearing to try to stop the forced electroshock has been delayed two weeks, so he's in danger of even more forced shock before the hearing.
Why have _The New York Times_ and corporate media
ignored the story that forced electroshock is done in the USA?
Are electricity and the brain somehow different as
one gets closer to _The New York Times_ office?
ACTION -- ASK THE MEDIA YOURSELF!

1) BRIEF LETTER TO EDITOR

Please consider e-mailing a letter to the editor to _The New York Times_ and other media. You can point to forced electroshock in New York State, and link it to their story today. Your own unique words are best.
TIPS: The word limit for letters to _The New York Times_ is only *150* words, so stick to that.
Be sure to include your contact info, along with day
and evening phone numbers for confirmation.
There's a web form to e-mail your letters to the
editor (it also has fax and address if you want to use that): http://www.nytimes.com/info/help/letters.html
Or you can directly e-mail letters to the editor at <letters@nytimes.com> .

2) REACH _THE NEW YORK TIMES_ REPORTERS AND EDITORS DIRECTLY

From a notice on _The NY Times_ web site:
"Contacting a staff member: Send a message to <staff@nytimes.com>   for an automated response listing the e-mail addresses of New York Times staff members who have made their Internet ID available to the public."
That's a way for you to automatically get back a
long long list of e-mail addresses for many _New York Times_ reporters, editors, etc. Try it.
A disclaimer should be respected that says those
e-mail addresses *cannot* be used for (1) commercial gain, and (2) any e-mail list without their explicit permission. Therefore, only individual personal e-mail to those e-mail addresses about news is okay.
And that's where we all come in.
Go for it! Please keep your message civil.

(2) A FREE WEBCAST "RADIO" PROGRAM YOU'LL WANT TO HEAR!!!

The "Don and Carla Show" this Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 is on the topic of "Forced Psychiatric Drugging."
The Don and Carla Show is a webcast broadcast free
on the Internet. It is a three-hour, topical talk show, live Monday through Friday from 4-7 Alaska time, 5-8 Pacific time, 6-9 Mountain time, 7-10 Central time, and 8-11 Eastern time.
Guests and (approximate) times for the special show
this Tuesday --
ALL BELOW TIMES ARE IN MOUNTAIN TIME:
6:00 David Oaks.
Endured forced psychiatric drugging in the
mid-1970s. He now is Director of Support Coalition International and editor of its journal, _Dendron_.

this campaign for human rights in the mental health context. http://www.mindfreedom.org . The Don and Carla show is a Sponsor Group.

6:30 Janet Foner, SCI Co-founder and former Co-Coordinator, now Board member and international activist for mental health human rights, endured forced psychiatric drugging in the 1960s.

6:55 N. Renay Tanner, trained in psychopharmacology, neuroscience, and clinical research, is a Ph.D. student at Columbia University. She focuses on the ethics and ideology of healthcare, seeing psychiatry as idologically driven, not scientifically driven.

7:20 Don Weitz endured forced insulin subcoma shocks for "schizophrenia" in the 1950s. He is Co-founder of People Against Coercive Treatment (based in Toronto, Canada), and a member of the No Force Coalition, and currently mobilizing resistance against the Ontario government's outpatient forced drugging/community treatment orders.

7:40 Dr. Dominic Riccio is a psychologist and psychoanalyst in private practice for 22 years, a training analyst at the Institute for Moderen Psychoanalysis, and a past president of the Association for Moderen Psychoanalysis. 8:30 Jody Harmon, of Corvallis, OR, is a survivor of forced psychiatric drugging and articulate about her experiences.

"Webcast" means that you can only listen free using your computer. The computer must be equipped with a sound card and speakers. And you must download a program called "RealPlayer" to listen. RealPlayer is available free from Don and Carla's website, http://www.donandcarla.net . It takes about a half hour to download, so get this done before the program starts.  Once you have RealPlayer downloaded, you can practice using your RealPlayer listening to any of the four archived shows on the http://www.donandcarla.net  website, available 24/7. You can also listen to The Reading Hour, on the hour before The Don and Carla Show. (Right now Carla is in the middle of reading _The Secret Garden_!) In fact, once you have RealPlayer, you can listen to streaming audio and video all over the web!
If The Don and Carla Show happens to get
disconnected momentarily from their server, everybody who is listening gets "bumped off." All you do is start RealPlayer again to reconnect. If you can't reconnect, it means they're still off. Wait 5 or 10 minutes and then try again. It should work by then. Sometimes the incoming signal is bad. In that case, try disconnecting and re-starting RealPlayer. You'll get a different phone line and hopefully a better connection.
If you want to contribute comments to the evening's
topic, do so either before or during the show by e-mail: <doncarla@vtc.net> . They consider those e-mailed comments an important part of the show and will read as many they can squeeze in. If you would like the upcoming topics and guests e-mailed to you weekly, just write Don and Carla, same address, to say that you want to be on the show's mailing list.
If you miss the show, or want a copy of it, a CD may
be available after the show. Watch Don and Carla's web site for that: http://www.donandcarla.net/  or e-mail to them at <doncarla@vtc.net>  .
