WRITE TO AN ARTICULATE PSYCHIATRIC RIGHTS ACTIVIST WHO HAS BEEN LOCKED UP FOR EIGHT YEARS
Even the federal government has slapped the hands of the Illinois psychiatric system for refusing to properly integrate people locked up in their huge psychiatric system back out into the community.
An example is C. Rodney Yoder, who is locked up in the remote rural southern Illinois facility Chester Mental Health Center. While Americans celebrated freedom, Mr. Yoder marked his eighth year inside this facility.
Now you can e-mail, fax, write and phone to the Governor of Illinois to speak out!
If we all act TOGETHER we can break the silence!
"The Illinois psychiatric system is locking up citizens and throwing away the key! An example of this is the Chester Mental Health Center. C. Rodney Yoder has been locked up there for eight years. Millions of dollars of taxpayer money is being wasted. Please respond soon."

Mr. C. Rodney Yoder is a 40-year-old psychiatric survivor rights activist who is very familiar with the movement for human rights in the psychiatric system. He continues to be locked up in Chester Mental Health Center (CMHC) since June 26, 1991 following allegations of causing a domestic disturbance.
An investigation by Support Coalition of his medical records has revealed no incident of any violence to self or others for many years. Multiple attorneys have written and spoken with Support Coalition about Mr. Yoder's plight. CMHC is very remote and isolated.
At this point Mr. Yoder is apparently "guilty of being an American" by strongly and repeatedly demanding his rights. The government uses people like Mr. Yoder to justify spending millions of dollars in taxpayer money to pay for guards, locked facilities, etc.
NOTE: Mr. Yoder, who has used his advocacy skills to escape psychiatric drugging and has even sued the system himself from inside his cell, LOVES getting mail and writing to human rights activist. He loves pen pals, please consider dropping him a note!

Below is an open letter from Mr. Yoder to Support Coalition activist Linda L. Valentine:
Dear Mrs. Valentine:
For eight years I have been oppressively "Involuntary Committed" to Illinois notorious forensic insane asylum by State Officials/bureaucrats with whom I was previously entangled in a bitter legal controversy.
I have been for several years a tireless and vitriolic critic of biopsychiatry. Part of my campaign to put biopsychiatry and institutional psychiatry out of business has been the reading -- to date of about 5,000 hours of texts in psychiatry, clinical and every other type of psychology, psychopharmacology, every school in psychodynamic theory, social psychology, etc., ect., and every imaginable allied subject.
By far I am more widely acquainted with the academic literatures in these subjects than any CMHC psychoquack, social worker or psychologist. My "treatment" plans list my criticism of psychiatry as a symptom of my "mental illness" and justification for my continued confinement.
In September of 1997, I submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice a 77 paragraph complaint about the CMHC treatment of it's unfortunate inmates, indescriminate use of neurotoxins: polypharmacy; "clinically contraindicated" use of high potency neuroleptics, lack of informed consent, drug coercions, illegal PRN's, use of neurotoxins as a mere convenience, "untreated" TD and tardive dementia [TD is a psychiatric drug induced brain damage causing twitching], akathisia, etc., and staff ignored neuroleptic malignant syndrome were all issues presented.
I submitted The Complaint with Illinois Legal Advocacy Services help under the Civil Rights of Institutionalized persons Act (CRIPA).
I've personally resisted drugging these eight years.
In 1996 a petition was filed for a Court Order to drug me due to: (1) my writing people like you (2) my convincing outsiders of my "delusions"
We (you and I and others) must continue this important work. I am limited to Letters to the Editor and the telephone.
What's been done to me is mind-boggling and akin to the X-Files Script. Its's taken 8 years for me to finally convince (through witnesses, records and other legally admissable & competent evidence) people who can relate to what's being done to me.
We are only allowed a two inch pencil stub at the CMHC -- so we don't poke our own eyes out, allegedly. I can actually write in a good cursive hand, but it dulls the pencil to a 1 inch stub.
I will continue working at the Front Line, in the trenches so to speak. Please keep up the wonderful work you've undertaken and please remember me.
C. Rodney Yoder
