(1) TODAY: PANEL OF FOUR JUDGES IN NEW YORK GRANTS TEMPORARY REPRIEVE FROM FORCED ELECTROSHOCK FOR TWO INDIVIDUALS -- PAUL T. and PAM S. BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- 
Two individuals at risk of
forced electroshock have won at least an eight-week reprieve until their cases can be heard on appeal, and a decision rendered.
Today, a panel of four appellate court judges
granted a full stay of forced electroshock of Paul Henri Thomas and "Pam S.", until the appellate division hears arguments about the appeal, reviews the cases and renders a decision. More info on today's court decision:

(3) MAY 18, 2001: NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY MEMBER MARTY LUSTER TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING IN NEW YORK CITY ON ELECTROSHOCK CONTROVERSY NEW YORK CITY: 
State Assembly Member Marty Luster is
chair of the NY State Assembly Mental Health Committee. He announced that statistics show the amount of involuntary electroshock over the wishes of the subject climbed 73 percent from 1999 to 2000.
Luster will hold a public hearing on Friday, May 18, 2001.

(4) MAY 21, 2001: RADIO PERSONALITY GARY NULL IS HELPING ORGANIZE AND WILL SPEAK AT A PRESS CONFERENCE AND PROTEST AGAINST FORCED ELECTROSHOCK

NEW YORK CITY: At noon, Monday, May 21, 2001, a news conference and protest of forced electroshock will be held directly in front of NY Attorney General Spitzer's headquarters, at 120 Broadway in Manattan.
Radio personality and author Gary Null will speak, and
is supporting the organizing of this legal, nonviolent event.

(5) JUNE 26, 2001: UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS OF TORTURE

June 26, 2001 is the date that a NY State appellate court will hear arguments on forced electroshock (see above).
By coincidence, this day is also the United Nations

(6) JULY 2001-- MAD PRIDE EVENTS IN FOUR NATIONS

More speakers and events are lining up for this four-nation celebration of the psychiatric survivors movement, coordinated by Support Coalition International.
More than a dozen international speakers -- including a performance by
acclaimed artist/author Persimmon Blackbridge -- have already been signed up for the Sunday, July 22, 2001 rally in Vancouver, Canada, outside the opening of the World Congress of the World Federation for Mental Health, at the Vancouver Convention Center, 3 pm to 5 pm.
