Attacks on OIKOS - express your solidarity
In the last days Oikos has received from the roman local government a notice to evacuate its site within 5 days. The association has been occupying a public building since 1986 and legalisation process of its occupation has reached the final stage in 1997. However, an executive of the local government, Dr. L. Zambrini, has hindered the ongoing of the process, which in itself is a violation of the law of transparency. Dr. Zambrini then issued this notice of evacuation, without any legal premise.
Whether this decision is a signal of persecution or a means to yield private interest is not clear. (Another society needs the site of OIKOS in order to obtain an enormous amount of US$47 000 from the European Union. This sum is withheld simply because they do not have a legal site.)
OIKOS is a self-sustaining non-profitable organisation based on voluntary work and an optimal utilisation of its limited resources. In front of aggression, thread or persecutory attempts, OIKOS cannot accept any compromise with authoritarian power. The example of Seattle demonstrates that every wound provoked by rods, tear-gas and rubber bullets will transform into strikes against power of oppression, and in this spirit, OIKOS fights its battle.

I protest against the decision of the expulsion of OIKOS from its site in Rome. Such act imposes an obstacle to uncensored information, the protection of the environment and the improvement of the quality of life which the volunteers of OIKOS have been striving for the good of society.
