PRESS INFORMATION
PINOCHET JUDGMENT: Note of Arrangements
The Judgment will take place on Wednesday, 24 March 1999 in the Chamber of the House of Lords at 2.00pm.
JUDGMENT IN THE CHAMBER
Representatives of the press and media who wish
to be present to hear the Judgment should queue at St.
Stephens Entrance. Please have your press ID with you as
there will be separate queues for press and public.
Please note the normal practice is for the Law Lords (Judges) to
pronounce judgment by simply referring to their written opinions
and not by reading them out aloud (see below). The Judgment
itself will therefore last for about 10-15 minutes.
Seating in the designated Press Gallery is limited. If demand
exceeds this space, members of the press will be able to sit in
other parts of the Visitors Galleries.
No stills or TV cameras or sound recording is permitted in these
galleries.
BROADCASTING OF PROCEEDINGS
The Judgment will be covered by CCT Productions
(the official parliamentary televising contractor) and will be
made available to PARBUL customers and all bona-fide broadcasters
worldwide, subject to the usual conditions of use.
Arrangements will be as follows:
All users who wish to connect to the live feed should contact the
CCT Production office on 0171 219 2732 (+44 171 219 2732 if
calling from outside the UK) for a briefing on line details,
approximate time, and pricing. PARBUL members (BBC, ITV, C4, C5
and BskyB) will share the origination fee of #100 on a per user
channel basis. Other broadcasters will pay the standard
non-PARBUL user rate of #165 each.
The signal will be available on the House of Lords main output
line at the appropriate time. There will be no countdown prior to
the start of transmission.
CCT Productions will also record the sequence and copies of
playouts will be available after the event to broadcasters who
may require these.
Details from the CCT office as above.
Special Note for Broadcasters Transmitting the Sequence Live
The sequence will begin following Prayers in the House with a wide shot of the chamber. Proceedings will be brief (a few minutes only) and the line will be closed immediately after the completion of proceedings. The end will be marked by a return to the wide shot held for 15 seconds followed by a fade to black 10 seconds and then colour bars and tone.
