THE MOTHERS OF PLAZA DE MAYO TO THE POPE

Buenos Aires
February 23, 1999

Sir John Paul II,

We have taken several days for accepting the demand of forgiveness that you, Sir John Paul II have asked for someone that has committed genocide, Pinochet.

We address to you as to a common citizen, since it seems aberrant to us that from your pope chair in the Vatican, without knowing neither having suffered on your on body the electric stick (picana), mutilations, rapes, have the courage to ask in the name of Jesus Christ clemency of the assassins.

Jesus has been crucified and his flesh has been torn by Judas that as you today defend the assassins.

Sir John Paul, no mother of the third world that has given birth to a son who she has loved, covered, cared for with love and who has then been mutilated by the dictatorship of Pinochet, of Videla, of Bancer and Stroesner will accept resignedly your demand of clemency.

We have encountered tree different opportunities, however, you have not arrested the massacre, you have not raised your voice for our thousands of sons in these years of terror.

Now there are no doubts left on which side you stand, yet we know that though your power be immense won't arrive to God, to Jesus.

A lot of our sons inspire in Jesus Christ, sacrificing themselves to the people.

We the association "Madres de Plaza de Mayo" ("Mothers of Plaza de Mayo") plead, ask God in an immense prayer that he will extend over the world, that he doesn't forgive you, Sir John Paul II, that he denigrates the Church of a people that suffers. In the name of millions of human beings that die and continue to die in the hand of people committing genocide, that you defend and sustain,
WE TELL LORD TO DO NOT FORGIVE JOHN PAUL II!

Association of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo
