SOME
BEAUTIFUL MINDS *FIGHT* *BACK*!!
PSYCHIATRIST
E. FULLER TORREY WILL BE PROTESTED ON THURSDAY, MAY 2,
2002 IN ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND, USA WHEN HE
KEYNOTES A NAMI CONFERENCE.
TWO DOZEN
SPEAKERS FOR THE "FREEDOM RALLY"
ARE ALREADY CONFIRMED.
Support Coalition
International fully endorses
the nonviolent protest of E. Fuller Torrey
(see detailed announcement below).
Torrey is escalating
his push for massive increases
in forced psychiatric drugging, and massive cuts in
federal funding for mental health
consumer technical assistance, empowerment,
and self-determination. And the Bush Administration
is apparently starting to listen to him.
The
May 2 rally is spearheaded by Laura Van Tosh
and the Montgomery County Coalition for
Human Rights in Mental Health. For more information,
or to cheer them on, e-mail rally organizers
at FreedomRally@aol.com
.
The National
Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI)
recently tried to pass a law in Maryland to allow
courts to order citizens to take
powerful psychiatric drugs against their will,
even while living in their own homes out
in the community. NAMI was defeated, but
Torrey wants to keep pushing for more force.
We're fighting for
our lives! Join in! Spread
the word! Unite! Resist! Unite! Resist!

efforts to expand involuntary treatment laws
across the United States, will be the keynote

Dr. Torrey recently
called for shutting down the
federal Center for Mental Health Services

that promote recovery. (_Washington
Monthly_ April 2002)
