Solidarités jeunesses Beauvoisin, Centre de la Garenne, Beauvoisin
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT: La Garenne
The "La Garenne" Hosting Centre is managed by a local association : a voluntary
mutual aid network.
This Association has set as its objectives, the promotion of the values of
tolerance, of participative democracy and of peace by setting its programme in
local development. Its objectives are targeted at facilitating intercultural
exchanges, via its hosting activities and the implementation of international
work camps for young volunteers.
The mixing of different categories of people, within the framework of collective
living, a job and activities shared by everyone, is the practical realisation of
the communal project. This is spread over three types of programme:
- hosting groups (classes of exploration/discovery, the handicapped) - hosting
young people having problems of social adaptation - international work camps for
young volunteers, both short- and long-term. These programmes fit into a desire
to be involved in local life, via the development of the necessary partnerships,
amongst others. These partnerships are currently being realised in three areas :
local organisation via work undertaken with the Beauvoisin municipality with the
local young people.
- Artistic and cultural creation with the Movid'art Association within the
framework of local construction projects yet to be implemented.
- Concern for the environment with the Scamandre Research centre, close to
Beauvoisin in the part of the Camargue in the Region of Gard. The activities of
the Association and, in consequence, the "La Garenne" Centre, are being
developed within the "Solidarites jeunesses" network and the close links
existing between the regional delegations, which could well facilitate the
volunteers meeting people, participating in programmes in other areas, other
projects. Finally, the elected members of the association are actively involved
in the life of the Centre and in the life of the Movement. They also are a point
of reference for the volunteers.
TASKS OF THE VOLUNTEER: Participate in the
hosting of the Groups and the day-to-day management of the Centre - to fit into
local life by being involved with local young people in the spirit of
partnership and community behaviour.
- Taking part in hosting young people in a social exclusion situation relying on
the functioning of the permanent work camp.
- Developing personal projects linked with the activities of the association and
fitting into local development. Quite often the activities will be manual in
character and carried out collectively. Following the necessary period of
adaptation, a extensive room will be given for personal and collective
initiatives and for each person's creative bent.
SUPPORT SYSTEM: Language support : an unpaid
teacher from the Association will provide the French course collectively, with
some individual follow-up.
Technical support : Technical mentoring will be provided by a Technical Youth
Leader responsible for keeping track of the work camps and also part of the
permanent staff of the Centre.
Personal support : the Centre permanent staff are there to listen to the
questions that could be raised by the volunteers.
ORGANISATION:
Solidarités jeunesses Paris, Parigi
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT: Solidarites
jeunesses is a national association for youth and adult education. It is the
French branch of an international movement (Action Jeunesse pour le paix - the
Youth Programme for Peace) and a member of the CNAJEP (Conseil National de la
Jeunesse - the National Council for Youth) and of Cotravaux (Collectif d'associations
de chantiers de jeunes - the Collective Association of Work Camps for Young
people). Together with its regional delegations and its partner associations it
is active in 10 regions in France in partnership with various public
institutions or local associations. The national secretariat is based in Paris.
It relays and centralises all the programmes run by the regional delegations and
the partner associations. It is thus involved in all the areas of activity set
up by Solidarites jeunesses : short and medium term voluntary service,
environmental protection, work with disadvantaged, etc. On the other hand, the
numerous international contacts maintained by Solidarites jeunesses permits it
each year to send young volunteers on projects abroad.
The Objectives of the project: The national Secretariat of Solidarites jeunesses
desires to evolve and thoroughly study its action programmes and, at the same
time, allow young Europeans to be involved in the programmes implemented.
Activities : the volunteers will carry out canvassing type work amongst the
local population, set up and develop new action programmes involving various
sectors of the public (local population, disadvantaged young people, young
people from various countries, etc.) and will assist the permanent staff team in
their daily work, whether this by of an every-day secretarial nature, or at the
level of local or international relations.
The target population : the National Secretariat will try to involve sectors of
the public as diversified as possible, by placing the emphasis on international
and intercultural encounter/meetings. The volunteers will thus work with very
varied sectors of the public, whether at national or international level. It
should not be forgotten that confrontation gives rise to comprehension.
Links with other projects : the volunteers will have the opportunity to work
with each of the Solidarites jeunesses delegations and with partners abroad,
without forgetting the various local communities. One of the objectives of
hosting the volunteers is to allow them to be in contact with a maximum of
different projects.
Sources of finance : Apart from the contribution anticipated from the European
Union, the funds are the usual resources of Solidarites jeunesses : membership
dues, co-financing by local and territorial communities and the State.
TASKS OF THE VOLUNTEER: The activities can
be divided into two categories : - one abstract, the other practical.
Initially, the volunteers will work in the field, in order to seek out new
contacts and new projects. These contacts will later need to be put into a
practical form, in order to introduce new partnership action programmes. The
volunteers should also seek out local projects allowing young people concerned
by the programmes organised by Solidarites jeunesses to be involved. These
activities should allow the volunteer to be involved in their own personal
project, whether this is in the categories contacted or in the programmes being
run, but, always in the pursuit of the objectives of the association. These
activities are not intended to be substitution for salaried employees but an
addition which allows everyone to develop their projects and their action
programmes. The volunteers will thus participate in the development activity,
including a group living period, team work and working alone, experiences which
can only enrich both the volunteers and the various projects.
SUPPORT SYSTEM: The volunteers will have
their own activities within the National Secretariat team, which will provide
personal mentoring over the whole voluntary service period. Each volunteer will
benefit from support by the person who will be mentoring them in their personal
research, will help them to seek out any training required, will be supporting
them and monitor them through their assessments over the whole of the period. On
the other hand, the assessment points will be organised both during and at the
end of the period with all volunteers working in the various Solidarites
jeunesses structures. A period of information and preparation will also be
organised at the outset of the voluntary service. Language courses will be
offered to the volunteer, whether at basic level or for improving their
knowledge of the language.
