QUESTION:
Dear Mr. Glasersfeld,
Is there any constructive role that religion can play in the contemporary world?

Maria Hetzenauer

ANSWER:

Dear Ms Hetzenauer,
Radical constructiviism is a model of rational knowledge. Religion does not belong to the domain of the rational but to the domain of mystical belief. There is no possible contradiction between the two domains  - as long as the mystics do not attempt to couch their beliefs in rational terms.

Best wishes,
Ernst von Glasersfeld
