WORKCAMPS IN AUSTRIA

In 2007 OIKOS organises in collaboration with YAPA Österreich (prima Perpetuum Mobile International), a local non-profit organisation, several workcamps in Austria.

The fee of participation (including the annual membership-card of OIKOS) is 80,00 Euro and has to be paid when applying for a camp.
The camp-fee (including board and lodging) is
from 30,00 Euro to 70,00 Euro and has to be paid to the camp-coordinator on arrival in Austria.

YAPA Austria is an organisation involved in youth activities. It provides opportunities to young people wishing to go abroad to work in a social project. YAP Austria also offers short time projects in Austria, and  offers to host people from abroad to work in these projects. The aim of the ‘outgoing’ program is to enable young people as well as adults to learn and understand other cultures and languages to promote peace through intercultural tolerance and understanding among people. The aim of the ‘incoming’ program is to offer similar opportunities to young people to come to Austria in order learn about the culture and to live and work with Austrians. This promotes local tolerance to foreigners, as local people come into contact with them as well as to provide the ‘real  insight’ about the reality of ’developed Europe’ to people from eastern Europe and other countries from other continents.

Work:The project is in cooperation of us with the castle of Finstergruen, which officially belongs to the Protestant Youth of Austria, but is no religious project. The castle of Finstergruen – that means “dark green”, like the forests around – is a youth hostel nowadays, located in the Southern Salzburg state, in the middle of the Alps. All volunteers live in one room in the castle and also get their food from the cantine.

Your mentors are volunteers from Grenzenlos. They will help you with any kind of personal needs and organize a frame programme of activities.

The programme includes free days with options to hike, visit an old mine, sports, etc.

Don’t expect urban life - pls be aware that the place is in a remote area. At the Finstergruen castle itself, you get all you need, but in a circle of some 50 kms you find only mountains and narrow valleys with villages and some small old towns. The Finstergruen castle is on a hill in a walking distance from the village Ramingstein which has one railway station, a supermarket, two pubs, a church and some more houses; the next small towns are Tamsweg and Murau, each 15 km from Finstergruen.

Accommodation: Castle; bath room, common sleeping room, dining hall, courts and surrounding meadows for leisure time. We will cook for ourselves. (Please inform us whether you require a special diet.) Address: Burg Finstergrün Wald 65, 5591 Ramingstein, Austria

Notes: You need to bring with you a sleeping bag and mats (we will sleep on the floor), working clothes, working shoes, raincoat, swimming suit, sun protection. If you require any medicaments (e.g. because of an allergy), don’t forget to bring them with you.
