WORKCAMPS IN GERMANY

In 2007 OIKOS organises in collaboration with Pro-International e.V., a local non-profit organisation, several workcamps in Germany

The camps are open to young people between 17 and 26 coming from all over the world and have an average duration of 2 weeks.
The fee of participation (including the annual membership-card of OIKOS) is 90,00 Euro and has to be paid when applying for a camp. 
The camp-fee (including board and lodging) is from 65,00 Euro to 165,00 Euro and has to be paid to the camp-coordinator on arrival in Germany.

Work: We offer a workcamp with a German-Language-Course included. There will be daily lectures, four hours per day in the afternoon (excluding Saturday and Sunday). Also excursions will be done with background of that language-course. The main topic during the lectures will be Intercultural aspects/diversities.
Besides the German language course there will be done some work (cleaning the house and surrounding, doing small repairing work) together with members of the organisation (German Friends of Nature) which the building and the area belongs to. Working and talking together with the members of this organisation will also help to have more contact to native German speakers.
The teachers of the language-course will be native speakers and in most cases students.
The main topic of the language-course will be intercultural aspects and diversities.
Participants must already be able to communicate in German; this course is not for absolute beginners.

Wir bieten ein Workcamp mit einem integrierten Deutsch-Sprachkurs mit taeglichem Unterricht an, jeweils vier Stunden nachmittags (ausgenommen Samstag und Sonntag). Auch die Ausfluege werden als Hintergrund das Erlernen der Deutschen Sprache haben.
Neben den Sprachkursen gibt es Arbeitseinsaetze (Aufraeumen und Reinigen des Hauses sowie des Gelaendes, kleinere Reparaturarbeiten), zusammen mit Mitgliedern der Organisation (Naturfreunde Deutschland), denen das Gebaeude und das Gelaende gehoert.
Die Lehrenden des Deutschkurses beherrschen die deutsche Sprache als Muttersprache und sind meistens Studenten.
Das Haupt-Thema waehrend des Unterrichts wird der Bereich Interkulturelle Aspekte/Unterschiede sein.
Die Teilnehmer muessen bereits in der Lage sein, sich auf Deutsch zu verständigen; dies ist kein Kurs für absolute Anfaenger der Deutschen Sprache.

Location: Marburg/Lahn is situated about 100 km north of Frankfurt and is a picturesque old university town with about 80.000 inhabitants (20.000 students). The camp-house is approx. 2 km away from the town centre.
Terminal: train station Marburg; next airport Frankfurt/Main or Frankfurt-Hahn.

Marburg liegt etwa 100 km noerdlich von Frankfurt und ist eine schoene und alte Universitaetsstadt mit etwa 80.000 Einwohnern (20.000 Studenten). Die Unterkunft liegt etwa 2 km vom Stadtzentrum entfernt.
Bahnhof: Hauptbahnhof Marburg; naechster Flughafen: Frankfurt/Main oderr Frankfurt-Hahn.

Accommodation: Accommodation will be in a house (located in the forest) with several-bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom. Cooking, cleaning, shopping etc. will be done by the volunteers themselves. Like in normal workcamps, accommodation, food and excursions are free / will be paid by pro international.
Unterkunft: im Haus (im Wald gelegen) mit Mehrbettzimmern, Kueche, Bad. Kochen, Putzen und Einkaufen wird die Gruppe selbst. Wie in einem normalen Workcamp sind Unterkunft, Verpflegung und Exkurisonen kostenlos / werden von pro international getragen.

Special Remarks: Participants must be able and willing to communicate in German permanently during the camp! We cannot accept participants who don't speak at least basic German or speak but use any other language during the camp. But the main thing is not to speak German very well, but be willing/able/"brave" to use available knowledge of German; this is part of the concept.
In order to avoid misunderstandings/disappointments: This language-camp won't/can't have same quality as professional / commercial language-schools/-courses. Age: 17-26;

Die Teilnehmer muessen faehig und willens sein, waehrend des gesamten Camps auf Englisch zu kommunizieren! Wir koennen keine Teilnehmer akzeptieren, die noch kein oder fast kein Deutsch koennen, oder Deutsch koennen, aber trotzdem waehrend des Camps in einer anderen Sprache reden. Aber das wichtigste ist nicht, gut Deutsch zu sprechen, sondern bereit, faehig und "mutig" zu sein, die vorhandenen Deutschkenntnisse zu nutzen. Dies ist Teil unseres Konzepts.
Um Missverstaendnisse/Enttaeuschungen zu vermeiden: Dieses Sprach-Camp hat nicht die Qualitaet eines professionellen und kommerziellen Sprachkurses (Sprachschule).

Work: In these camps, the participants are busy doing various manual works to prepare the area for the summer leisure activities or to clear up the places at the beginning and the end of the season (gathering leaves, building up/taking down tents, painting windows or block cabines, gardening, clearing the place, etc.). The time of work is 6 hours daily, excluding weekends.

Location:Marburg/Lahn is situated about 100 km north of Frankfurt and is a picturesque old university town with about 80.000 inhabitants (20.000 students).
