WORKCAMPS IN ECUADOR
In 2008 OIKOS organises in collaboration with FPEC (Fundaciòn Proyecto Ecologico Chiriboga), a local non-profit organisation, several workcamps in Ecuador.
The fee of participation (including the annual membership-card of OIKOS) is 100,00 Euro and has to be paid when applying for a camp.
The camp-fee (including board and lodging) is 300,00 Euro and has to be paid to the camp-coordinator on arrival in Ecuador.

General Rules to volunteer in our projects
The volunteer will self-prepare emotionally and intellectually by investigating more about the placement where he/she will assist.
The volunteer will fax/e-mail flight information to the Foundation
The volunteer will respect the new culture and its traditions
The volunteer will arrive on time to the placement
The volunteer can not arrive later than 10:00pm to the host family, the door will be closed at 10:00h
The volunteer can not bring any kind of alcohol to the projects; can not smoke in front of the children, and will refrain the use of improper language. Disrespecting these rules may result in immediate dismissal without any refund.
If the volunteer would like to eat something different to what is offered at the Foundation’s house (special dishes from their countries) purchase of all the ingredients and preparation will be fully covered by the volunteer.
The volunteers will help with some house cleaning like doing the dishes or cleaning the bathroom, sweeping the floor.
The volunteers will take care of the furniture, kitchen utensils, house keys, etc. Broken or lost items must be replaced by the volunteer.
The volunteers must report about their travels to the family.
Any complaints against the local project or accommodation must be reported to the Foundation’s Coordinator in order to look for any immediate solution.
The volunteers are responsible to keep their bedroom and belongings tidy.
Smoking inside the house is not allowed. Cigarette butts and ash must be properly disposed.
The volunteer must have the courtesy to always clean and dry the shower room after use.
Volunteers must inform the Foundation in advance about their vegetarian diet or any food allergies.
Toilette paper or any feminine sanitary products are not to be flushed in the toilet in any place of Ecuador
Do not forget to blow off candles ,whenever possible, please use flashlights
FEES ARE NOT REFUNDABLE IF THE VOLUNTEERS DECIDE TO CUT THEIR PLACEMENT BECAUSE OF PERSONAL PLANS OR ANY KIND OF REASON. SO PLEASE PLAN YOUR TRIP, TIME AND BUDGET ACCORDINGLY.

Work: The activities will depend on the type of placement, but may include: Help with reforestation projects, helping with a Plant’s inventory, reintroduction of animals into their natural habitat, feeding the animals, species conservation, maintenance of animal rehabilitation center, offering support/help in the communities where you may be living.
Location: The Chiriboga project is located 50km southwest of Quito, at Chiriboga town. Reforestation and other forms of ecological work are the activities in the project. The placement is only carried out in groups and requires a minimum of 6 and up to 12 volunteers.Accommodation: Accommodation and food is provided at the house of the Proyecto Chiriboga, sharing rooms and toilettes with other volunteers during the first part of the placement, keeping the group together. During the second part of the placement, accommodation and food is provided with middle class families from the communities or at the teacher’s house.
Notes: Basic knowledge of Spanish language is required.
