WORKCAMPS IN GHANA
In 2008 OIKOS organises in collaboration with ADDAI & DWUMAH & TOURS GHANA, a local non-profit organisation, several workcamps in Ghana.
The fee of participation (including the annual membership-card of OIKOS) is 100,00 Euro and has to be paid when applying for a camp.
The camp-fee (including board and lodging) is 200 US$ and has to be paid to the camp-coordinator on arrival in Ghana.
Objects:
Participants lives in the communities where they work, interact with the people on daily basis, integrate and enjoy their way of life, learn their cultural practices and the motive behind them, participate in child naming and customary marriage ceremonies; in fact, you live as part of a big community. You will enjoy African culture and hospitality at its best.

Project: Christfotech Orphanage, Akropon-Esaase
Work: Volunteers will be teaching in the orphanage. They may also provide daily support to the inmates of the home.
Location: It is located at Akropon-Esaase in the Ashanti region of Ghana. The children are very intelligent and needs help of the general public to enable them get education. It has hosted some volunteers from Europe, Africa and other continents.Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying with host family, or rooms for themselves or live in groups in the town when requested by volunteers to live on their own but under supervision from us when needed.

Project: Nkenkasu AIDS/HIV Campaign
Work: Volunteer will embark on AIDS/HIV campaigns in secondary and primary schools and the villages and communities in the Nkenkasu area of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. HIV/AIDS is a serious health issue in Ghana but the youth who are most vulnerable has little or no knowledge about the disease hence the need to carry out educational campaigns in the villages.
Location: It is a small town in the Ashanti region of Ghana. It has basic infrastructural facilities such as roads, telephone and electricity. It is a farming community with most of the farmers cultivating tomatoes, pepper, cassava and plantain.Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying with host family, church houses, schools and rooms for themselves or live in groups in the town when requested by volunteers to live on their own but under supervision from us when needed.

Project: Rehabilitation Centre for Physically Handicapped, Kwadaso
Work: Volunteers will work in a physically challenged home at Kwadaso, a suburb of Kumasi. The inmates have variety of disabilities. It has electricity, telephone and Pipe born water services.
Location: Kwadaso, a suburb of Kumasi.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying with host family or rooms for themselves or live in groups in the town when requested by volunteers to live on their own but under supervision from us when needed.

Offinso/Kumasi
Project: Kumasi, Nkoranza, Offinso. Civil rights, Democracy and Tolerance.
Work: Volunteers will educate the public about their civil rights and liberties, responsibilities, the rights of others, tolerance and the need for a peaceful inter-cultural coexistence. Ghana’s democracy is very young but it is fast growing; however the major challenge is political tolerance. The program therefore aims at educating Ghanaians particularly the youth on their rights vis-à-vis the rights of others and the need to be tolerant of other people’s opinion.
Location: Offinso in the region of Ashanti, 17 km from Kumasi.

Akumadan Project: Akumadan. AIDS/HIV, Environmental and Health Campaign
Work: Volunteer will embark on AIDS/HIV, oral health and Health educational campaigns in secondary and primary schools and the villages and communities in the area of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. HIV/AIDS is a serious health issue in Ghana but the youth who are most vulnerable has little or no knowledge about the disease hence the need to carry out educational campaigns in the villages. Dental and eye care services may also be provided. They will also undertake activities in the communities and in schools to educate the public about the need to ensure a high level of personal and environmental hygiene, and a cleaner environment in the farming community.
Location: Akumadan is a small town with exciting people. It is a farming community with a secondary school and has access to basic infrastructures. It is about 15km from Techiman, the home of West African wide food market. The population of the town is about 3000 people.Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying with host family, church houses, schools and rooms for themselves or live in groups in the town when requested by volunteers to live on their own but under supervision from us when needed.

Kumasi Project: Great Achievers Educational Center, Kumasi
Work: Teaching in the kindergarten, primary and the junior secondary school
Location: It is located in Ashanti region of Ghana. It was established in 1980 and it is the oldest school in the town. It can boost of most of the prominent people in the society. It is a grade B school in Ashanti region with the faculties like computer laboratory, library etc. Volunteers will have the opportunity to experience the cultural exchange like cooking, dressing, language etc.Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying with host family, church houses, schools and rooms for themselves or live in groups in the town when requested by volunteers to live on their own but under supervision from us when needed

Kumasi Project: Columbus Orphanage and School, Kumasi
Work: Volunteers will be teaching in the orphanage home. You will also provide daily support to the inmates of the orphanage home. You may also teach in the school which all the orphans teach for free.
Location: It is located in Ashanti region of Ghana. It is one of the few recognise charity homes in Kumasi. The children are very intelligent and needs help of the general public to enable them get education. It has hosted some volunteers from Europe, Africa and other continents.Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying with host family, church houses, schools and rooms for themselves or live in groups in the town when requested by volunteers to live on their own but under supervision from us when needed.

Tano-Odumasi Project: S.D.A School, Tano-Odumasi
Work: Volunteers will be teaching in primary and Junior Secondary School
Location: S.D.A school is a primary and junior secondary school in Tano-Odumasi, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana and was established by the seventh Day Adventist church, with the aim of reaching education to the children in the deprive village.Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying with host family, church houses, schools and rooms for themselves or live in groups in the town when requested by volunteers to live on their own but under supervision from us when needed.

Offinso Project: St Joseph’s School, Offinso
Work: Teaching of primary and Junior Secondary School pupil.
Location: It is an integrated preparatory school for the able and the disable child located at Offinso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying with host family, church houses, schools and rooms for themselves or live in groups in the town when requested by volunteers to live on their own but under supervision from us when needed.

Nyamebekyere Project: Tree Planting, Nyamebekyere No.1. The area was once a rain forest but due to bush fires it has now been turn to guinea savannah land. The programs aim at supporting the efforts of the chiefs and people of the area in reforesting the entire area. The project started 5 years ago and is an on going.
Work: Volunteers will carry out tree planting exercise with the community.
Location: This is an environmental transitional zone between Offinso and Sekyeredumase in the Ashanti Region and Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo region.Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying with host family, rooms for themselves or live in groups in the town when requested by volunteers to live on their own but under supervision from us when needed.

Nnerebehi Project: St Joseph School, Nnerebehi
Work: Volunteers will teach children under 13.
Location: It is a preparatory school located at Nnerebehi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It has a crèche and primary school. Volunteers may also work in an oil palm plantation.Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying with host family, church houses, schools and rooms for themselves or live in groups in the town when requested by volunteers to live on their own but under supervision from us when needed.

Offinso Project: Orphanage, Offinso
Work: You will be caring for children with special needs such as physically challenged and mentally retarded persons. Your activities will include; providing daily basic and hygienic support (bathing, feeding etc), physical training and therapy, mental training, and educating parents about their children’s disability and how to cater for them.
Location: Offinso, about 17 km from Kumasi.Accommodation: Volunteers will stay with a host family.

Offinso Project: Offin Children Center and Blessed Child School, Offinso.
Work: Volunteers will be teaching in the Offin Children Home. You will also provide daily support to the inmates of the orphanage home. You may also teach in the Blessed Child School which all the orphans attend for free.

Nyamebekyere-Offinso Project: Nyamebekyere Clinic, Nyamebekyere-Offinso
Work: Volunteers will be working in the Nyamebekyere Clinic as health care attendants including HIV/AIDS advisors. The clinic was established by the community with the support of the Roman Catholic Church. It remains the only health facility in the community which is dominated by farmers.
