WORKCAMPS IN MAROCCO

In 2008 OIKOS organises in collaboration with ASTVS, a local non-profit organisation, several workcamps in Marocco.

The fee of participation (including the annual membership-card of OIKOS) is 120,00 Euro and has to be paid when applying for a camp. 
The camp-fee (including board and lodging) is 100,00 Euros and has to be paid to the camp-coordinator on arrival in Marocco.

Rissani

Work: The volunteers will organize the summer activities for the children, especially for those from poor families. The children will be divided in groups regarding their age and the volunteers will be free to choose and structure the activities according to their preferences and the childrens interests.

Accommodation: The volenteers will stay together at a house.

Location: Rissani.

Notes: Participate can: Everybody who has the minimum age of 18 years old and who is sufficiently motivated.

Project: However French is one of the official languages in Morocco, many people have little skills in the French language. Hence, ASTVS wants to offer people a French language course in the summer. English is taught in secondary schools, but the level is very low. Only a small minority of the Moroccan people does speak the language. Many people appear to have the desire to learn the language.

Work: Method: Volunteers will have the responsibility over a small (maximal 15) group of students, who will be grouped according to their individual level. Volunteers are free to choose the method which suites them best. However, volunteers have to take into account that there are few materials available. ASTVS developed a manual with tips and advices regarding the methods volunteers can use in their course. Obviously, volunteers can always approach members of ASTVS with any kind of questions.

Location:  Errachidia is a city 582 km from Rabat. It's situated in the ZIZ valley, in between the mountains of High Atlas and the dessert sand hills. The landscape is dominated by red colored mountains, rocks and fields of stones. In the middle of this dry environment you can find many oasis of palmtrees which produce delicious dates.The climate is very hot and temperatures will arrive up to 40° in summer.

Accommodation: Volunteers can choose to stay in hostfamilies or to stay together in a school or a house or youth house. Staying in hostfamilies gives volunteers the opportunity to explore the Moroccan culture from the inside and to establish a friendly relationship with the Moroccan people.

Notes: Participate can: Everybody who has the minimum age of 18 years old, who has sufficient knowledge of the French or English language, who is strongly motivated and has a creative mind.

Project: Schools in the area of Errachidia have a sober and boring look. ASTVS wants to give the schools a more child oriented look.

Work: Method: The idea is to decorate schools with for example nice figures. or even to paint it if required .

Accommodation: The volunteers will stay at a school or at a youth centre.
