WORKCAMPS IN MAROCCO

In 2008 OIKOS organises in collaboration with CSM, a local non-profit organisation, several workcamps in Marocco.

The fee of participation (including the annual membership-card of OIKOS) is 120,00 Euro and has to be paid when applying for a camp. 
The camp-fee (including board and lodging)  has to be paid to the camp-coordinator on arrival in Marocco.

The camp-fee for the language-camps has to be paid directly to Oikos at least 10 days before the camp starts.

GENERAL INFORMATIONS

CSM - what is it ?  

CSM, Chantiers Sociaux Marocains, is a non profit NGO, founded in 1963. CSM is a national association, with several sections all around Morocco and a large international relation of cooperation. CSM is the Moroccan national committee of ICYE International Cultural Youth Exchange; it’s a member of several national, regional and international plat forms.

CSM aims to

• To promote volunteer activities for young people in their spare time and holidays;

• To promote community development and encourage participation of community members in activities for their own benefit;

• To create opportunities to exchange experiences between youth from different parts of the country and the rest of the world;

• To promote international understanding through voluntary services;

• To enable young people to encounter and understand different cultures;

• To encourage the concept of voluntary services as a force in search for peace equality, democracy and international understanding;

What is CSM workcamp conception?

A workcamp is a sort of voluntary service. The participants in this activity try to work together for a common aim. This means that all the participants must be actively involved in this service and be well motivated to do it.

A workcamp is also an opportunity for young people to exchange experiences and to achieve an intercultural learning process so as to build a word of peace and mutual understanding.

The work greatly varies from one project to the other. It normally involves Construction work in remote educative, social and cultural establishments, nature conservation work, and restoration of historical monuments, bricks molding, health and Aids awareness campaigns, sanitation projects such as digging water wells and erecting Blair toilets. The communities may ask us to perform other specific tasks outside the scope of our agreement. This is seen as a way of promoting intercultural understanding.

Who can participate?

All the people between 18 and 40 years old can participate; some exception could be done for older motivated people.

Work:  An Arabic language session is a special activity that CSM organize every year. Some 80 people coming from different countries participate in them. The objectives of this activity are: - Giving to people the opportunity to get basic knowledge about Arabic language. That knowledge could be useful for him in their studies or in their daily life or in their travels in countries speaking this language. - Giving the opportunity to people to get in touch with the Moroccan culture and its way of life, and in consequences achieve a fruitful cultural exchange. - Giving the opportunity to people has some basic knowledge about this language to brush up it and be adapted to different ways to use it.

Accommodation: The participants lodge and eat in hosts families .

Location: Rabat is the capital of Morocco it's situated on the Atlantic Ocean. The climate is normally hot in summer; however warm closes are advised to be used in some fresh nights. Terminal: Casablanca airport and / or Rabat airport.

CSM04

Salé

Work: The participants will learn and work deeply the Moroccan artisan techniques to work pottery. They will get knowledge about how to do pottery articles from working and preparing the earth to decorating the articles. This activity doesn't require individual skills but it demands your motivation to overcome all difficulties. CSM will provide you all the materials needed in this activity.  One of the aims of those camps is to discover the Moroccan culture and history and compare this to yours.

Accommodation: The participants lodge and eat in hosts families .

Location: Location: Salé is a beautiful town situated on the Atlantic Ocean, it’s the nearest town to Rabat, they are separated by a river .This town is well known by its pottery and, monuments and nice beaches. The climate is normally hot in summer; however warm closes are advised to be used in some fresh nights. Terminal: Casablanca airport and / or Rabat airport.

Work: After the successful of CSM experience in this field, and according to people’s requirements , our association will go on organizing English courses to young people aged from 15 to 18 years old with less education sustain opportunities .Those courses aim to: - Giving the opportunity to young people who have never been in touch or who are in their first or second year, to discover it or/and to overcome the difficulties they have in this language. - Trying to connect those children with friends from abroad so as to correspond between them in English as a tool to promote their English knowledge and level and establish new friendship.

Work: The Workshops of Drama and Animation is a special activity that CSM organize for the third year. Some 20 people coming from different countries participate in them last year. The objectives of this activity are: To Know , To make : To communicate clearly, to order its ideas, to argue, memorize, and analyze a text or a character, To know, To be : To trust each other; overcome its blockings and its timidity. To open on the world, to be with the listening of the others, To know, to develop: To know how to promote its capacity of creation and a spirit of initiative.

Work: Contents of the trekking -  intercultural exchange programme. The program includes 2 weeks of different activities: The first week we will organise arabic langauge courses, visits of Rabat and salé and others historical sites in the region. in this week the  participants lodge and eat in hosts families. The second week will be reserved for visiting Marrakech and trekking in the high Atlas.

Zagora

Work: The project will be organized in collaboration with the local delegation of education, it will take place in a school, and it consists at painting and cleaning the classrooms and the surrounded area of the school. This work will be also achieved by the association of student which will contribute actively with the volunteers during their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organization of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in all the camp’ by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.

Accommodation: The full accommodation will be in the local youth house. The food will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves (2v or 3v per day). More information about the camp place will be given later.

Location: Zagora is a beautiful town in the south of Morocco, near the Algerian borders . It is well known by its large desert. The climate is very hot, in summer it can reach around 40°. Zagora is about 750 km from Rabat and about 250 Km in the south of Ouarzazate. Terminal: Airport Zagora, Marrakech , Casablanca airport, Ouarzazate.

Marrakech- elhawz

Work: The project will be organized in collaboration with the local delegation of education, it will take place in a center for orphan children, and it consists on painting and cleaning the Classrooms and the surrounded area of the school and the orphanage.  During their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organizations of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in the general organizations by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.

Accommodation: The full accommodation will be in the local youth house. The food will be prepared by the volunteers themselves.

Location: Marrakech is a very beautiful town situated in the south region of Morocco, it is well known b its nice and animated place Jamaa Elfna , its traditional markets and historical patrimony . The climate in Marrakech is usually hot in summer; however, it could change from time to time. Terminal: Marrakech , Casablanca international airport.

Sidi Ifni

Work: The project will be organized in collaboration with the local delegation of education, it will take place in a center for poor and orphans children, and it consists on painting and cleaning the Classrooms and the surrounded area of the Center.  During their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organizations of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in the general organizations by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be lodged in a center for children resident. It's the same for the food which will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves (2v or 3v per day).

Location: Sidi Ifni is a very beautiful small town situated in the south region of Morocco, Its far from Agadir by 120km, it is well known by its nice and animated beach, its traditional markets and historical patrimony. The climate in Sidi Ifni is usually hot in summer; however, it could change from time to time. Terminal: Agadir , Marrakech, Casablanca airport.

Ouarzazate

Work: The project will be organized in collaboration with the local delegation of education, it will take place in a school, and it consists at painting and cleaning the classrooms and the surrounded area of the school. This work will be also achieved by the association of student which will contribute actively with the volunteers during their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organization of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in all the camp’ by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.

Accommodation: The full accommodation will be in the orphanage. The food will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves

Location: Ouarzazate is a beautiful town in the south of Morocco.It is well known by its Movie studios where famous international movies were fimed ( as The Momie, the Door of heaven… etc)land also with it’s special nature of palm trees. The climate is very hot, in summer it can reach around 38. Terminal: Airport  Marrakech , Casablanca airport, Ouarzazate.
