LOCATION: Villa Ana, a village of 3000 inhabitants in the North of the Province of Santa Fe, Argentina.

WORK: The youth group for community action “Quebrachito” are developing several actions which commemorate this important year. Argentina is going towards it’s bicentenary; the 25 May and will celebrate 200 years as a nation and Villa Ana is going to celebrate its centenary; on the 9 July it will celebrate 100 years as a village. For this reason together with Subir al Sur and the community of Villa Ana we will develop from the 26 June until the 11 of July a project which has the objective of working on activities related and forming part of the festivities on the route to the birthday of the village.

The history and the development of a small village such as Villa Ana goes back exactly 100 years and was in the hands of a British company which exploited the North East of Argentina for a tree called Quebracho from which they extracted a substance called tannin. The community of Villa Ana is characterized by its history and for the painful memories of usurpation and robbery.

The youth group Quebrachito, Subir al Sur and the people of the village are preparing and organizing to celebrate the birthday of their dear village through different activities, which are as follows:

LOCATION: The city of Quilmes is a locality of around a million inhabitants of the conurbano bonaerense and as such has middle class residential areas, working class neighbourhoods, areas of poverty, and marginalized neighbourhoods. It is 20 minutes in train from the city of Buenos Aires.

WORK: The association Vientos del Sur proposes a first workcamp ‘Local Identiy and Global Citizenship’ in Quilmes, from the 26 July until the 8 August 2010, in the Arts Centre Identidad Sur.
In the year of the Bicentenary the start of the independence process of Argentina, we want to reflect about our identity from the perspective of global citizenship in the XXI Century.
We think that the best way to develop this initiative is to associate ourselves with Subir al Sur to organise together a workcamp which facilitates the development of one of our favourite methodologies of intercultural intervention, AccionArte*.
In this way, we call to those who want to make part of an intercultural encounter which includes different instances of training of the participants and collective production together with the local community.
